With revelations this past weekend of yet another significant data breach affecting yet another retailer, cyber insurance is sure to have its mettle tested, and reasonably soon. The data breaches continue to mount, affecting businesses, individuals and an array of governmental agencies and public entities around the globe. Particularly hard hit since November have been retailers.

As such, it is safe to say that many in the business world will be watching closely to see if this insurance product actually delivers on its promises and how well it delivers. Although stand-alone cyber products have been around for several years now, it is only in the last few years that this insurance product has really gained traction as a regular component of a business insurance portfolio.
